Set up the password manager
The password manager works with the official Bitwarden apps. You use the familiar apps but connect them to the Jehli Informatik server instead of the Bitwarden server.
1. Create your account
You receive an invitation by email. Follow the link and set your master password.
Important: the master password encrypts your vault on your device. I do not know it and cannot reset it. Choose a long passphrase you can remember, and keep a note of it in a safe place.
2. Install the apps
Install the Bitwarden app from the App Store or Google Play, and the browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge. Apps for Windows, Mac and Linux are available at bitwarden.com/download.
3. Enter the server address
Before you log in for the first time, switch each app to the Jehli Informatik server:
- On the login screen, tap the server selector (it shows “bitwarden.com”) and choose Self-hosted.
- Enter the address from your setup email as the Server URL and save.
- Log in with your email address and master password.
4. Turn on two-factor authentication
Log in to the web vault and open Settings → Security → Two-step login. Set up an authenticator app and write down the recovery code.
Sharing passwords
Families and teams share passwords through an organisation with collections. I set up the organisation for you and invite your members.
Bringing your existing passwords
In the web vault, go to Tools → Import data to import passwords from your browser, 1Password, KeePass, LastPass and many other tools. Delete the export file afterwards.
